Here are some more pictures from our visit with Jose Romanillos:

Here we are inside the museum. Jose is pointing out a beautiful 250 year old Vihuela de Mano by Francisco Sanguino. It is the one on the right. I believe this is one of Jose's favorites.

Here are couple pictures of the front of this instrument. It's incredibly well preserved.

Back at Jose's shop, here are a couple of his rosettes for future guitars.

I was blown away by the beauty of the second one. As you can see, the motif is the same but the execution is quite different.

Finally, here we are back at Jose's house and he is showing us a draft of his (hopefully) soon to be published book on guitar making.

That 1768 Sanguino is stunning.
Here we are in the summer of 2007 examining it at Jose's studio:

Jose's rosettes are indeed lovely too. One important feature is that they are not always symmetrical in their design.

Hi Peter,

Good to hear from you. I have a book and a DVD of yours. I need to get them back to you somehow.

Baroque Guitars, not Vihuelas :?

Jealous, jealous.

I tried to convince my kids that Siguenza was an important tourist opportunity when the three of us were on a road trip around the peninsula last year, but they didn't see that it was an essential part of the plan. Closest I got was the fast train from Madrid to Barcelona.
